A lot of what we did in Social Media over the past semester revolved around the use of Twitter. I never planned on signing up to twitter because I didn’t really understand the point of the whole thing; However, it wasn’t long before I was just another one of the millions of people using it daily.
For the most part I use my account for nonsense and things that make me and probably only me, laugh (kyle’s twitter). In the future I would like to learn to use it as a tool, to help promote my work (i.e music, videos or music videos). We began to cover using Twitter as a tool in class and discussed the things you can do to gain recognition and followers. Unfortunately I don’t have much of my own media material to promote, so using it in that sense is something I will wait to do.
It’s funny that there are actually techniques to using Twitter to your advantage. You really wouldn’t think so. . . “the times they are a changin’. . .”
For all the pros of social media, there are definitely some cons. Interaction has definitely become much easier, but I can’t help feeling that the social skills of the generation that follows will only get worse.
It would be amusing to see how most people today would function without access to the internet for a few weeks. It’s important to remember that there is a world outside the world wide web and it’s much better.
The following video shows some pretty interesting facts about social media in society. It dates back to 2011, so you can bet the numbers have only increased.
I would be a hypocrite if I didn’t mention how often I get trapped in related videos on youtube or news feeds on facebook before I realize an hour has passed. Sharing online has never been easier and it’s a good thing. I suppose the key is just knowing when to pull yourself away from your screens.
